The Italian exams recognised throughout the world are issued by two major Italian institutions:
- The CILS (Certification of Italian as a foreign language) issued by the University for Foreigners of Siena
- The AIL (Accademia Italiana di Lingua) issued by the same academy in Florence, which is the main headquarters.
