DELF

DELF (Diplôme d'Etudes en Langue Française)

The DELF exam is made up of units, of which you need to pass all of the tests in order to obtain either the DELF 1st degree (units A1 to DS2) or the DELF 2nd degree (units A5 to A6).

A1 : General expression
You will be tested on your listening comprehension skills, oral expression as well as the writing of an informal letter.

A2 : Expression of ideas and feelings
You will be asked to defend your point of view or to comment on a picture. The same task will be asked of you in writing.

A3 : Reading comprehension and written expression
You will have to analyse the content of a simple document, prepared in 20 minutes. The written part of the exam consists of the analysis of the content of a text and the writing of a formal letter.

A4 : Practice of language functions
You will have to answer a comprehension questionnaire focussing on recorded documents.

DS1 : General expression, expression of ideas and feelings
You will need to be able to express yourself freely on a given subject, on your own or in a group. For the written part, you should be able to identify useful information and write a letter and a note or a message.

DS2 : Reading comprehension and written expression, practice of language functions
You will be judged on your level, in both spoken and written language. You will have to be able to understand a recording and discuss a short document. For the written part, you will need to identify essential information in a text and produce two personal written texts.

A5 : Reading comprehension and written expression
For this unit, you will be tested on your reading comprehension and written expression in French. You will be given two texts to write. One which judges your ability to analyse a text and the other, your ability to write a text.

A6 : Specialised oral expression
This test is divided into two oral exams of 20 minutes each. The first is an oral summary of an authentic text and the second is an interview on the same text.
